ARTIST STATEMENT
Impressions come to me mostly in fragments. Perhaps it's because the country itself is so diverse; the tiled and gilded facade of Orvieto's splendid duomo, gleaming in the late afternoon sun like a collection of precious stones in a sun-colored setting. The warm, dream-tinted air of October Vindemmia, redolent opf crushed grapes and straw and sweat. The timeless, almost mystical serenity of a grove of ancient olives. Serried hillsides of vines punctuated by the geometry of cupolas and tile roofs of graceful villas with their marches of slender black cypresses. Pastels and earth tones - Burnt Umber, Ochre, Sienna. In Tuscany you learn the true nature of these pigments.
