Gerald King

ARTIST BIO

I was born in the small Wisconsin town of Kaukauna in 1936. My father, Royal Wescott King (1888-1948) was a self-taught artist who had a scenic design company in Chicago, Illinois which he lost during the Great Depression. My mother, two brothers and I moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where I became the artist of the family.

My life as an simple image maker who abandoned the mainstream to develop a personal artistic vision freely. This vision has been greatly influenced by exposure to the great art of the past, early 20th century illustration, photography, air travel, and a host of scientific discoveries of my time. Though I copy the art of the Old Masters and no longer accept or give consideration to most of what is anointed as art of the 20th century, I consider my work as unique, personal, and relevant to the world I live in. I can only pray that it is of such quality that it will be saved and enjoyed by future generations.
