Karen Hubacher
ARTIST BIO
Karen Hubacher’s paintings and collagraph prints are characterized by their organized structures and their highly textured surfaces. Architectural and landscape motifs are evident, as well as a commitment to formal abstraction issues of problem solving. Her award-wining work has been described as “dichotomous ” — that is, appearing both ”free-spirited and precise, spontaneous yet meticulously planned.” The mixed media paintings grew out of techniques developed during her involvement with collagraph printmaking and the book arts.
Hubacher holds a B.S. from American University and studied art at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Pyramid Atlantic, and The Art League. Her work has been exhibited in many invitational and solo shows throughout the United States. In 2001 she was awarded a Painting Fellowship for a one-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center. In 2002, she was awarded a scholarship from the Sante Fe Art Institute. Her work is included in the collections of the International Monetary Fund, Johns Hopkins University, the American Embassy in Poland, and many other corporate and private collections in the United States and Europe. Hubacher is a resident of Alexandria, VA and Rock Hall, MD.
