Robert Cook

ARTIST BIO

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Robert Cook studied there under George Demetrios. Later he studied in Paris under Marcel Gaumont at l'Academie des Beaux Arts and he moved to Rome with a Fulbright Grant for advanced study. He and his wife, writer Joan Marble Cook, have made Italy their primary home, maintaining an apartment in Rome, a house and large studio outside Rome, and a flat in London. They travel extensively in Africa and Asia where Cook fills sketch books with studies of animals in the wild such as elephants, lions, camels and flamingos. These, and subjects such as dancers, sporting figures and groups of musicians become charged with complex elements of energy in Cook's expressions of motion/spirit.
